Conventional Treatments

Current conventional treatment protocols for HIV-1, HIV-2 and AIDS are called "HAART" (highly active antiretroviral therapy). These protocols are very effective in reducing the progression of the disease, although the drugs used do have substantial side effects.

Dr. Weyrich strongly recommends that patients who have HIV or AIDS take these treatments if possible. Only patients who are not a candidate for these treatments, have failed these treatments, or who cannot afford these treatments should consider the alternative treatments described below.

treatments described below.

The naturopathic and complimentary treatments described below may be considered with caution, in full consultation with conventional (allopathic) care providers.

Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN)

According to the Low Dose Naltrexone home page [LDN], LDN has been seen to benefit HIV and AIDS, both with and without concurrent HAART. However, LDN has not been found to benefit HIV-encephalopathy. [Bihari1988] [Bihari2003] [Bihari2013  🕮 ] [Traore2011], [Traore2011a], [LDN].

Dr. Deanna Windham states that "LDN improves the immune systems's response to infections, including" HIV, "likely due to its immunomodulary effects on T cells, monocytes, and macrophages" [Elsegood2016, pg 36]

Dr. Weyrich has been trained in the use of Low Dose Naltrexone (LDN), but lacks the specialized training necessary to treat patients with HIV or AIDS.

Please see What is Low Dose Naltrexone? for more information.
